Judith Ann Brierley passed peacefully on December 8, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished above all else. Born on April 11, 1948, in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, Judy lived a life rich in love, learning, family, and meaningful connections.
She was the beloved wife of Thomas Kyle Brierley, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years of marriage after meeting while earning her Master’s Degree in Education. Together they built a life marked by devotion, adventure, and deep family bonds.
Judy was a proud and loving mother to Kara Hildebrandt and her husband Michael, and to Kevin Brierley and his wife Kelsey. She was a devoted grandmother to her granddaughters Alexis and Aubrey Hildebrandt, who brought her endless joy and were the center of her world. Everything in her life seemed to circle back to “the girls,” and she poured her warmth, encouragement, and love into every moment she spent with them.
She is survived by her sister, Susan Matiya (James), and her extended Brierley family: Craig (Donna), Jay (Kathy), and Nancy (Barry) O’Toole. Judith was also a cherished aunt to nieces Alissa and Trisha, and nephews Chris, Ryan, Michael, Troy, Timothy, and Matthew. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Jean and John Stewart Green.
A lifelong educator, Judy graduated from Lewiston-Porter High School in 1966, completed her studies at SUNY Buffalo, and earned her master’s degree at Niagara University. Her career reflected her passion for teaching and helping others grow. She began her teaching career at Niagara Falls High School, continued at Niagara Community College, and later joined Seminole State College, where she taught and served as Department Chair. Her students and colleagues remember her as inspiring, generous, and deeply committed to learning and to the people around her.
Judy made her home in many places, including Canada, Germany, England, Boston, Brooklyn, and Lewiston. She later settled in Florida, first in Casselberry and most recently in Winter Springs. Wherever she lived, she created a welcoming home, built lasting friendships, and quickly became part of the community.
Judy loved traveling with family and friends, especially when it involved sunshine and the sea. The beach was her happy place, most of all when she was there with those she loved. Some of her favorite memories were Caribbean cruises with her granddaughters, watching Alexis and Aubrey discover the world through their eyes, and journeys through Europe with Kyle by her side. She also enjoyed playing cards, sharing stories, and hosting holiday gatherings where laughter came easily. But nothing meant more to her than her family. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend.
Judith’s legacy is one of kindness, strength, teaching, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, followed by a service at 3:00 p.m. at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 501 E. Mitchell Hammock Rd., Oviedo, FL 32765. The family will receive guests at the Brierley home following the service.
