
Lena was born on April 8, 1925, in Salisbury, North Carolina to Ollie and Harry Wheeler. She graduated from Boyden High School in Salisbury focusing on secretarial skills. She worked as secretary for many years and retired as a bookkeeper from the Port of Palm Beach on April 1, 1987.
She was happily married to Arnold Kluttz for 56 years. They met in Lexington NC in 1941 and married in Washington DC in 1942. She is survived by their three children, Barbara Keller, Nancy Tait, James Kluttz, six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Lena and Arnold lived in Baltimore MD and San Francisco CA during World War II where Arnold worked as a machinist building ships for the war effort and Lena as a waitress in a diner. After the war in 1945 they moved back to Baltimore, and then to Florida in 1949 living there for 38 years. In 1987 they moved to Lowgap NC right off the Blueridge Parkway fulfilling a dream to live in the Blueridge Mountains. Lena ended up back in Orlando FL in the late 90’s due to Arnold’s health. In 1998 after Arnold passed away, she moved into the Lutheran Haven community which she dearly loved and lived in for 22 years.
Reading and traveling were Lena’s favorite things to do. She was fortunate to travel to many cities in Europe, go on an eight-day Safari to Africa where she fed her favorite animal the giraffe and took a ride on a hot air balloon. She also took a trip to the south pacific islands of Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti. Lena also served in the Lutheran churches where she was a member by teaching children’s Sunday School, serving on the alter guild and participating in church visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life in the chapel of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at 2021 W State Rd 426 Oviedo, Fl, 32765 on Tuesday January 4, 2022. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, funeral service at 2:00 PM with a graveside service following the funeral service.
