Robert D. Gilbert Sr.

Robert D. Gilbert Sr., age 89 of Oviedo, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017. He was born February 2, 1928 in Cairo, Georgia. He served in the Army Air Corps and was based out of Turner Air Force Base in Albany, Georgia. His service during the Korean War included tours in Japan and England, setting up and managing field hospitals. He is retired from the North Broward Hospital District after more than 30 years of service. He is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Gilbert Knight (J. Randall) of Tampa, FL. and Felisa Gilbert Chiaravallo (Angelo) of Oviedo, FL.; son, Robert D. Gilbert, Jr. (Suzanne) of Winter Springs, FL.; sisters, Hazel Keyton and Elizabeth Champion, both of Thomasville, GA.; four grandchildren, Joseph Robert Knight (Cendy) of Scottsdale, AZ., Ashley Knight of Mobile, AL., Kerrianne Gilbert Arnold (Allen) and Brandon Gilbert (Ashley), both of Lake Mary, FL.; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Knight and Peyton Arnold. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Dean Wright Gilbert; parents, Walter and Ella Gilbert; brothers, Herbert, Ernest and Herman Gilbert; sisters, Neva Belle Shores, Lessie Leslie, and Lorette Willis. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Oviedo Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at CrossLife Church, 45 W. Broadway St., Oviedo, Florida 32765. Interment will be in Tired Creek Cemetery in Cairo, Georgia.
