Virginia Chandler Hackett passed away Wednesday August 17, 2016 at the Hospice of the Comforter after a brief illness. She was born to John Wesley & Elba Landers Chandler in Alabama City, Alabama December 6, 1919. After graduation she moved to Rome, Georgia where she worked at Celanese Fortel Mills making materials for the military effort for WWII. She married and had a son, Larry Chandler Allen. Virginia moved to Florida in 1949 and has resided in the Florida Keys, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Oviedo. She married Marlin L. Hackett of Neligh, Nebraska on November 26, 1952 and had two daughters. A woman of compassion and charity she could be found providing care and transportation for the elderly and helping young mothers with their children. The years she resided in Ft. Lauderdale she was instrumental in providing meals to the community served by Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Virginia was an avid reader. At a time when most were retiring, she began working with elementary age children to improve reading skills and promote the enjoyment of reading. A cooking enthusiast, lifelong learner, and fantastic hostess, meals in her home were always fun because of her sense of humor and culinary skills. Those privileged to sit at her table will never be able to eat baklava, grape leaves, or pecan pie without thinking of her. Virginia truly cherished her family and friends. It is those personal relationships that were her greatest accomplishment here on Earth. Virginia was preceded in death by her siblings and husband Marlin L. Hackett. She is survived by her son Larry Chandler Allen (Sheryl) of Acworth, GA, daughters Dena Marline Hackett of St. Augustine, FL. and Bonnie Geannine Hopkins (Paran) of Oviedo, FL.
