

Pacific Grove ~ Gilbert D. Preston, Jr., a 41-year resident of Pacific Grove, passed away at Canterbury Woods, his home of 25 years. He was born in Alliance, OH. He went to UCLA, was in Delta Sigma Phi and graduated in 1942, and then entered the military. As a pilot, he flew transport over the Himalayas during World War II, then flew in the Berlin Air Lift, and later flew B-36’s and B-52’s in a career that spanned 21 years. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he was Vice-President and Administrator of Forest Hill Manor in Pacific Grove for 17 years.
Gil was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pacific Grove, volunteered at the Museum of Natural History, and worked over 5000 hours for the Community Hospital Auxiliary. He also served on the Pacific Grove City Council for six years.
Gil is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marjorie; his children, Gil (Barbara) of Northridge and Carol (Mark) Smith of Clovis; his grandchildren, David (Molly) Preston, Jill (David) Barbee, Amanda (Kevin) Berryhill and Sarah Smith and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will take place at the First United Methodist Church this Sunday, August 28 at 1:00 PM. Contributions may be made to the church at 915 Sunset, Pacific Grove, 93950 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
