Harry C. May, Lt. Col. (Ret.) USAF, of Pacific Grove passed away at Westland House on Tuesday September 20, 2011.
After growing up in Chicago, Harry joined the Army Air Corps immediately after Pearl Harbor and became an instructor pilot in the central valley. He subsequently served 24 combat missions in World War II as a B-29 airplane commander in the Pacific. Following the post-war years as a pilot for United Airlines, he returned to the Air Force as a career officer. After retiring from the military, he spent over 16 years on the staff at Ohio State University and while in campus planning played an important role in completing several new academic buildings and satellite campuses.
Harry will be deeply missed by his loving wife Betty of 64 years, son Randy May and daughter-in-law Carol Greenstreet, all of Pacific Grove.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Monday September 26 at Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove. Funeral services and interment will be at the family cemetery plots in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
