Somewhere, he has already thought of a comeback for this situation that is one part incredibly intelligent and witty, one part bitterly sarcastic, and one part so inappropriate that no one would have uttered it out loud since 1955.
Before he blurts that out, it is with profound sadness that we announce the death of James Crawford Olin, who left this world on May 26, 2025.
Jim was born in Portland, Oregon on February 22, 1938, the son of William and Kathryn Olin. He moved to Millbrae, California as a toddler where he ultimately played basketball for and graduated from Capuchino High School. He later attended San Francisco State University, where he also played basketball, and the University of Nevada Reno, where he graduated.
In his early adult life, he was a member of the United States Army National Guard and began a career as an insurance broker with a CPCU accreditation which lasted over 40 years. He married Jeanne Marie Adams, his wife of 52 years. He helped raise a family in Moraga, California, supporting his children's interests in sports, dance, and music.
In later adult life, he retired and moved with Jeanne Olin to Pacific Grove, California, where he was able to travel, relax, and enjoy the coastline.
He will be remembered by family and friends for his unique brand of humor, his passion for local professional sporting teams, especially the San Francisco 49ers, and his family's annual holiday parties which were partly defined by his favorite hors d'oeuvres.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, his children Tod, Janine, and Christopher, and his grandchildren Diego, Luna, Belle, Noella, Abrielle, and Harper.
He leaves this world as the only soul to have greeted Saint Peter with, "So this guy walks into a bar..." and a request for a VHS player to watch old 49er tapes.
He also leaves behind family and friends with intense sadness and fond memories of his playful nature.
Jim-We miss you. We love you. We will never forget you. And if asked, we’ll pass on your thoughts about the offensive line and what to do on third and short.
