

Capt. James “Jim” McAllen Webster, age 86, passed away July 19, 2013 in Carmel, CA. He was born on August 7, 1926 in Cumberland, MD and moved with his family at age 1 to Princess Anne, MD, where he spent his childhood.
In 1948, Jim graduated from Harvard and then decided to make the Navy his career. He attended the U.S Naval Academy, graduating in 1953. While still in the Academy, he met a lovely young lady, Mary L. Haley. They were married in the Naval Academy Chapel on April 17, 1954. Jim served as an officer in the Navy for nearly 40 years, retiring as Captain. His service included a year in Saigon and six months on a destroyer off the shores of Vietnam during the war. His last tour of duty was for five years at the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterey, CA. Jim spent his military career traveling around the country and the world. In 1977, he and his wife settled in Carmel Valley, CA. He retired in 1983, after which he and Mary spent many happy years enjoying Carmel Valley. Jim remained in touch with many local Navy colleagues and volunteered at the Maritime Museum.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters, Joanne and Patty; and two granddaughters.
A private memorial will be held at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Carmel Valley at a later time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
