

Joe was born in Greenville, Kentucky, grew up in Kettering, Ohio where he graduated from Fairmont West High School in 1966. He went on to earn his BS in Finance in 1970 from Miami of Ohio University in Oxford, Ohio; followed by an MBA in Finance from the University of Cincinnati in 1975. After graduating he moved to the Bay Area to pursue his career in Corporate Tax.
Joe lived and worked in the Bay Area for over 40 years. Beginning his career at Memorex where he initiated many of the lifelong friendships he has today. He had a brief stint at Wadsworth Publishing but returned to the world of high tech Corporate Tax in early 1980s. He joined the newly developed Apple Computer Tax Department where the Tax Team implemented many cutting edge corporate tax solutions. After over eight years at Apple Joe left to develop and lead the Tax Department at Xilinx, Inc., ultimately becoming VP of Tax. While at both Apple and Xilinx Joe was instrumental in developing and successfully concluding two cases involving significant tax issues affecting high technology companies. Establishing precedents used in tax cases today.
Professionally Joe was an active member of the Silicon Valley Tax Director’s Group and the TEI (Tax Executive Institute). He was very proud of his heritage and on January 2, 1980 became an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. Also an avid football and basketball fan his favorite teams were his alma mater Miami of Ohio Redhawks, San Francisco 49ers, and especially the Golden State Warriors. Joe was a founding member of local basketball team, the Death Squad, for many years. After retiring he became the Cordevalle Vineyard Estates CSD President. He took up golf and enjoyed cruising and traveling in Europe and Hawaii with friends and family.
Joe is proceeded in death by his Mother, Peggy Joan Forgy. He is survived by his loving wife, Stacy, his father Floyd O. Forgy, Jr. and sister Glenda Forgy Hoagland. He is also survived by his stepson and family, Lee (Jaimee) Tassio and grandchildren Gianna, Juliet and Samantha. Brother-in-law Dan Hoagland and nephews Nicholas (Ashlee) and Nathan Hoagland. Sister-in-law Maureen McCarthy (Darren).
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Thursday, May 12, 2016 starting at 1:30pm, reception immediately following the service. Service will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, California. Private burial to follow on Friday, May 13, 2016.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and the March of Dimes.
