As a Lieutenant in the US Navy, John served onboard the USS Irwin during the Korean conflict and brought honor to himself and to his country. Success followed John as an advertising executive for Chesebrough‐Pond's and for Bristol Myers before he left to start his own company, The Cary Corporation, known for introducing "Chaser" one of the first hangover pills in the country. John’s wit and positive disposition also landed him an appearance on the TV Show, “What’s My Line?”
Ultimately, John’s career path changed to pursue his true passion, owning and operating an antique store, JJ Nicholas, first on San Francisco’s artsy Samsone Street and later in Southampton, NY.
Mr. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joyce, his brother, Bruce, four children and five grandchildren all of whom inherited elements of artistic appreciation and creativity.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mr. Nicholas’ name to the Alzheimer Association or the SPCA of Monterey County, CA.
