Our dear Lynda passed from this life to the next on April 9, 2015. Lynda was born in Ogden, Utah on September 27, 1941, to David and Lily Schmalz. Her family moved from Utah to Southern California in 1947. In 1960, after high school, Lynda, her mother and stepfather, Ralph Collins, moved to the Monterey Peninsula. She attended Monterey Peninsula College and then embarked on a career in banking for over 30 years. Lynda retired from banking as Vice President and Manager of Sumitomo Bank of California. Lynda also taught banking at Monterey Peninsula College and Sunday school at St. Joseph's Parish in Spreckels.
Lynda was very active in the community, volunteering for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Salinas Rodeo, the California Airshow and the CHOMP Auxiliary. She was a founding Board Member of The Old Monterey Business Association, and a Board Member of Soroptimist International. Lynda also served on the board of the local Alzheimer's Association for over 20 years. When not volunteering, Lynda's greatest passion was traveling the country with her devoted husband, Bill, in their motor home. Over the years, they traveled thru almost every state. Bill and Lynda's special place after retirement has been their second home in Mountain View, Arkansas. They would spend six months in the Ozarks and six months at their Serra Village home in Salinas. Lynda also volunteered for the Mountain View, Arkansas, Chamber of Commerce and the Arkansas State Folk Center, where she and Bill were voted volunteers of the year in 2012. Lynda especially loved the culture, music and people of the Ozarks.
Lynda leaves her loving husband and best friend of 32 years, Bill, her son Jim Adam & daughter in law, Connie, of San Benancio, her niece, Sharleen Adam, of Monterey, step-son Bill Avey and daughter in law, Anna, of Springfield, Oregon, step-daughter Edie Avey, of Reno, Nevada, brother in law, Ken Avey (Jackie) of Angeles Camp, California and brother in law, Jake Avey, of Campbell, California, her grandchildren, Anna Rose Avey, Anthony Avey (Whitney), Amy Christie, Kyle Adam and Morgan Adam, her two great granddaughters, Cali & Berkeley Schoell, along with many dear friends and neighbors.
Lynda's smile and her ability to make everyone feel at home will be dearly missed. The family would especially like to thank all their wonderful friends and neighbors who gave assistance to both Lynda and Bill during her illness.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Parish in Spreckels on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 11:00 am. A reception will follow in the church courtyard. In lieu of flowers, donations to Lynda's favorite charity, The Alzheimer's Association of Monterey, would be greatly appreciated.
