November 1, 1927 ~ December 30, 2011
Carmel ~ Marcia B. Cross, whom family and friends knew as a sweet and loving spirit, passed away peacefully on December 30 at Carmel Hills Care Center. Born November 1, 1926 in Honolulu, HI, she attended Punahou and Roosevelt High School in Honolulu and Stephens College in Missouri.
For most of her life, Marcia was a member of the Outrigger Canoe Club in Waikiki and the Christian Science Church in Honolulu and Carmel. She was a Teacher’s Aide at Monterey and Seaside High Schools as well as a long-time volunteer at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
Marcia married Jack C. Cross, also of Honolulu, in June 1949 and, together, they raised two sons, Rick and Marc. The family moved to Carmel in 1964 but has maintained close ties to Hawaii to the present day.
Marcia will be fondly remembered by friends and fellow dog-walkers at Carmel Beach for her always cheerful words and disposition. In addition, whether she was driving her boys to surf contests in Santa Cruz, watching them negotiate the waves at Carmel in the company of a succession of German Shepherds or simply shepherding their surfing pals at Cross Trails, she was always “Surf Mom”.
Marcia is survived by her sons, Rick and Marc, both of Carmel and her grandchildren, Patrick, Jacqueline and George, all of Denver, CO.
Services are pending. Arrangements under the direction of The Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove, CA.
