Pacific Grove – Muriel Dunham Brun celebrated her 100th birthday three weeks prior to passing away of natural causes on April 12, 2012. She was a native of Soledad CA and lived her entire life in Monterey County. Muriel was a member of the first Salinas Hartnell College graduating class and went on to graduate from San Jose Normal College, now known as San Jose State University in 1936. Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Brun in 1996. They lived in the Salinas Valley prior to moving to Pacific Grove in 1988 where they resided at Canterbury Woods, a senior residential community. For 24 years Muriel was very much loved and respected for her vitality and uplifting personal contributions to the Canterbury community which she called “heaven”.
Muriel was a life time member of Reveille Eastern Star, Salinas Chapter #47, past Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls, charter member and past Captain of Corral de Tierra Country Club, member of Forest Hill Methodist Church in Pacific Grove, enjoyed bridge and board games, and was recognized by the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society for her many dedicated hours of needlework.
Muriel is preceded by her identical twin, Miriam Baker, younger sister, Shirley Rock and ten first cousins. She is survived by daughter, Sallie Brun of Pacific Grove, daughter Marilyn Quadros/Fred Quadros, grandson David Fontes (Corinne) of Salinas and Ryan Fontes, (Sadie) of Chualar Canyon/Salinas Valley, and five great grandsons.
Muriel was inurned at Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the lounge at Canterbury Woods.
