Our beloved Mother, Orpha Settle Estep, who died on February 4,
2012.
Mom was born December 5, 1922 in Jackson County, Kentucky to Lydia Truett Settle and Robert P. Settle, Sr., the fourth of eleven children. As a young child she moved with her family to Hamilton, Ohio, where she grew up and met and married the love of her life, Fred Estep in 1942 and raised three daughters, Karen Redmon (George), Betty Estep, Vicki Imperial.
Orpha was a tireless mother and took great pride in her family and home. She enjoyed cooking and baking, bowling, playing bridge and socializing with her friends, family and members of her church.
In 1974 Orpha and her three daughters moved to Carmel, California and began a new life.
In 1975, she opened The Crystal Palace, a china and crystal shop on Dolores Street. In her new role as a business owner, she flourished and enjoyed the many new friends she made in this endeavor. Her two oldest daughters worked with her and loved their business but closed it in 1978.
Orpha continued living and working in Carmel and many people may remember her from her employment at I.Magnin.
Mom loved her grandchildren, Nicholas Imperial (Bonnie) and Alexandra Imperial and assisted in their care when she could. In 2007, she welcomed her great-grandson, Ryan Imperial, into the family and cherished the time spent with him, who knew her as his GG.
Those of us Orpha leaves behind, her family in California as well as the remaining sisters Mary Bradbury, in Hamilton, Ohio and Shirley Eastman ,in Winter Garden, Florida and her many nieces and nephews, will forever remember her love and spirit.
Her passing will always leave a hole in our lives that she filled so magnificently. Her daughters also mourn the passing of their father, Fred Estep, who died December 11, 2011, and who Mom always loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Alpha, Rowena, Opal, Marie and her brothers Elmer, Eldon, Donald and Robert, Jr.
A private celebration of her life with a butterfly memorial is planned for May.
Arrangements under the direction of The Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove, CA.
