Ram Trivedi Dutt from Lambasa, Fiji passed away in Carmel, California on April 18, 2023 at the age of sixty-nine. Ram was one of ten siblings, and he is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Kanta, son Ashwin and daughter-in-law Monica, daughter Aarti and son-in-law Pablo, and daughter Kirthi and Mike. He was a proud grandfather of four grandchildren, Ellie, Nathan, Ari, and Eila and five granddogs.
Ram emigrated from Fiji to Monterey in 1973 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1979. He spent his career in hospitality on the Monterey Peninsula, including several years working at Pebble Beach, where Ram learned to play golf and had countless first-hand stories surrounding some of the golf’s most iconic events, such as the Bing Crosby tournaments. Ram was an avid soccer player for the Monterey Soccer club and was a life-long student of martial arts.
As a father, his focus was always to ensure that his children earned an education and established successful careers for themselves. He attended several graduations over the years for each of his children, and watched proudly as each of them reached the pinnacle of their chosen profession. That was his dream, and he got to live to see it. If you ask his children, he was a constant cheerleader, always motivating and supportive, and had an endless supply of unconditional love to give not only to his children, but also to his nieces and nephews. He hugged and kissed his children and grandchildren every chance he got and he was supremely proud to be the patriarch of his growing family.
Ram was well known by many in the Fiji-American community and had many friends whom he made sure he saw or spoke with regularly. Ram was generous with his time and was always ready and willing to help a friend, relative, or stranger. Ram Dutt will be dearly missed by those that were fortunate to have known him.
