

Sandy died peacefully in her sleep with her husband, Ron, by her side on February 9, 2015. She was born and raised in Huron, South Dakota where she enjoyed a carefree childhood spending time in town and on the family farm. She was involved with many high school activities and was especially proud of being a cheerleader for three years. After high school, Sandy attended the University of South Dakota. She was involved with Pi Beta Phi activities and graduated with a degree in Special Education. She moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1965 and began a 40-year teaching career. She often worked a 60-hour week to help meet the needs of her special education students. She was also instrumental in starting two pre-schools in Carmel Valley and was a 50-year member of P.E.O. Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Huether. She is survived by her mother, Iola Huether; her husband, Ron; son, Lance; daughter, Meredith (Gil)
Contreras; sister, Nancy (David) Ellison; brothers, Rodney (Theresa) and Steven, and the love of her life, her grandson, Jonathan. Sandy requested to be cremated with inurnment taking place at the Huether Family plot in Wessington Springs, South Dakota. At Sandy’s request, no services will be held. So many people exceeded expectations in giving Sandy the care that she needed. In particular, Sandy’s family would like to thank a very special person, Dr. Nancy Rubin.
