Teresa Campos Sanchez, our loving mother, was born January 19, 1931 in a house on Foam street above Cannery Row. Her parents, our grandparents, arrived in Monterey in 1927 - their names Nicholas and Narcissa Campos from Jalisco, Mexico. Eventually they bought a home on the corner of Irving and Archer street and raised Teresa and her siblings, three brothers; Hermanehilldo, Nasario, David, and two sisters; Ester and Josephine.
Teresa attended Bayview School then to Monterey high school, as a teenager she worked in the canneries. She studied in Mexico after high school. She then returned home and worked for an insurance firm here in Monterey. She and her sisters went to live in San Francisco for work, then she met a good-looking Marine at a dance and that gentleman later became her husband, our father, Manuel Sanchez. After his discharge from the Marines they moved to Monterey to raise a family, two sons Roland and Ricardo.
Mom went to work for the Monterey high school cafeteria. She then went to work at Pacific Bell where she worked for 27 years and retired from there as supervisor. After retirement she went to work for Costco part-time as a server, and enjoyed doing that because Mom loved to talk to people, see old friends, and meet new ones. She loved her family, her sons, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren, celebrating birthdays, holidays, social and sport events of her familia. She and Dad loved to dance, attending her favorite music, Tex Mex, going to Texas Tejano Awards in Dad's hometown - San Antonio, Texas, with friends, and meeting a lot of famous musicians.
Teresa Campos Sanchez passed away on September 18, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family. She left two sons - Roland David Sanchez and Ricardo Sanchez, three grandchildren - Dakota Ann Lewis-Pacay, Roland James Nicholas Sanchez, Lauren Alexandria Sanchez, and her two great-grandchildren - Isaiah Daniel Lewis and Maddison Grace Lewis.
Mom you will be missed, we are here to carry on your devotion to God and family.
MOM THANK YOU FOR BEING THE BEST!
A funeral mass for Teresa will be held Friday, October 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church Street, Monterey, California 93940.
