Yiannoulla "Joan" Ioannou-Fong

A loving wife, daughter, sister and aunt, Yiannoulla “Joan” Ioannou-Fong passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer at the age of 59.

Joan was born on July 9, 1963, in Nicosia, Cyprus. The daughter of Procopis and Afroulla Ioannou, she emigrated to Canada with her family and grew up in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Joan attended local schools and began her work career by helping in the family restaurant business before entering the travel and hospitality industry.

Joan began her work career at Air Canada Vacations in marketing and made many friends and work associates during her time there. She had many fond memories of her work associates and travels.

Never afraid to explore new ventures, Joan’s motto of “Always go forward and never turn back” brought her to California to bring her marketing skills to other travel related companies. Joan also published a travel magazine that was distributed nationally. She loved the challenges and always enjoyed meeting people and visiting new places.

Joan loved to travel, either for work, family and friend events or vacations. She always enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and family. Joan also enjoyed her time golfing and enjoyed the challenge of hitting the perfect shot.

Joan is survived by her husband (Edmond), parents (Peter and Afroulla), sister (Vicki), brothers (Mike and Jimmy), sister-in-law (Tina), brother-in-law (Andreas), special nieces (Anna Maria, Christina and Stephanie) , her nephew (Michael) and great niece and nephew (Sophia and Andreas). Joan will be dearly missed by her many family and close friends.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the Paul Mortuary, 390 Lighthouse Avenue, Pacific Grove, California. Wake service will be held at 6 PM.

Funeral Services will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church of Monterey County, 9th Avenue and Lincoln Street, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.

Burial will be at the El Carmelo Cemetery, City of Pacific Grove, California.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church of Monterey County.
