She was born in Philadelphia on June 27, 1933; attended Olney High School and Temple University; and received a master’s degree in education from Framingham State College. She taught high school English for thirty years.
She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and friends; her love of travel, reading, and art; and her sense of style. She never forgot a birthday, took her children to museums and Broadway shows, and stayed close over the decades with a group of dear friends who called themselves the Ballet Ladies. Barbara threw fabulous dinner parties, loved to play golf and mah-jongg, wowed the boys with her diving prowess at Tamiment in her teens, and canvassed for Democratic candidates in her eighties. Kind, generous, quick to laugh, and never one to take herself too seriously, she was admired by all who knew her and cherished by her family. She will be deeply missed.
Barbara was predeceased by her father, Herman Polss; her mother, Iris Polss; and her beloved husband of 67 years, Richard Leventer.
She is survived by her brother, Perry (Ahna Sue) Polss; her son, Steven (Annie) Leventer; her daughters, Amy (Dave) Leventer and Lisa (Mitch) Leventer; her grandchildren, Sarah (Frank) Leventer, Ashley Leventer, Billy Reed, Lizzy Reed, Peter Nauffts, and Andrew Nauffts; and her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Capogna and Oliver Capogna.
