Janice H. Levine, 78, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away on Sunday, February 18th, 2024. She is survived by her husband George, her daughters Rhonda and Michelle of Randolph, New Jersey, her granddaughters Hannah and Abigail Levine-Rothfeld, and her sister Barbara (Bruce) Murdoch of The Villages, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews.
After earning her degree in English from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, Janice taught high school in North Carolina and New Jersey. She also worked at Passaic County College, Camden County College and California Lutheran University. A lover of learning, Janice returned to school and earned her Master of Letters (M.Litt.) from Drew University. In addition to teaching, Janice was extremely involved in volunteer work. She served as the president of Hadassah chapters in High Point, North Carolina; Livingston, New Jersey; and Thousand Oaks, California. She was also the president of Sisterhood of Synagogue of the Suburban Torah Center in Livingston, New Jersey where she was an active member of the congregation for more than fifteen years. In addition to her work with Jewish organizations, Janice was very involved in the Thousand Oaks chapter of the American Association of University Women. Upon moving to Florida, Janice became a volunteer teaching English as a second language to adults in the local community.
Janice met the love of her life, George, in 1965 while in college. They were married in 1967 in High Point, North Carolina. Janice and George couldn’t wait to start a family of their own, and their daughters meant the world to them. The family moved from North Carolina to Livingston, New Jersey. After many years, the family relocated to Thousand Oaks, California. Janice and George then moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey before retiring to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Though she loved volunteering and teaching, Janice’s favorite role was that as a grandmother. She treasured her time with her granddaughters and nothing made her happier than being their Bubbe. She also adored her nieces and nephews.
Janice was an amazing cook and enjoyed hosting family get-togethers and holiday celebrations. She was also a proud feminist who taught her daughters and granddaughters what it means to be a strong, civic-minded woman.
Donations in Janice’s memory should be made to Hadassah and/or Alzheimer's Association.
Funeral Services and Burial for Janice will be held 2:30pm, Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at IJ Morris at Star of David of the Palm Beaches, 9321 Memorial Park Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33412.
