Grandpa,
I admired and looked up to you for many reasons.  You were such a strong, intelligent person. I enjoyed spending time with you on your dock when I was child. We would fish, watch the birds, and you let us be kids. I remember sleepovers at your place and how much fun I would have. I enjoyed watching you with grandma and seeing how much love you had for her.  You always spoke so highly of her.  I enjoyed listening to your stories about Japan. Most importantly, I enjoyed being with you, celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. I have many great memories of you to cherish.  I am very thankful that I was able to enjoy 33 years of my life with you in it. It gives me comfort knowing that you passed in the exact way you wanted, peacefully at home.  I will continue to love and celebrate you and your life!!

My grandfather was awesome. He lived his entire life how he wanted. He conquered polio and prejudice, and went out on his terms.  He would say he wanted "I was a lucky man" engraved on his tomb.  Well, we are all lucky to have had him in our lives. He will be greatly and forever missed. He will never be forgotten.

You were the patriarch of our family for over 60 years.  You gave us stength, wisdom and love.  Your words and actions lead us successfully through live's challenges and pleasures. If I had the choice of any dad in this world, I would pick you!  I thank God for you.  I will love you eternally.  Your daughter, Lori

Dr. Joseph S. Fischer, my grandfather (or in my earlier years my "Pop Pop"), was a husband, a father, a brother, a fantastic grandfather, a veteran, a doctor, and a sage.  He taught me to catch, to play chess, to fish for bass, to take pride in myself, and to live an honorable life.  His passing may halt his ability to teach new lessons and opine on new subjects, which he definitely loved to do, but the wisdom he shared in my 33 years (and presumably during all 92.5 years of his life) will live on in me and all those he inspired. His memory will be honored every time that knowledge is shared with someone new.  I am thankful that he passed peacefully in his own home surrounded by those who loved him. Rest in peace Grandpa.
