
Louis Littman Shane, 89, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 3, 2021. Lou is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan, his children Hilary Shane and David Shane, and his grandson Oliver Shane.
Lou was dedicated and passionate about the two most important motivators in his life: his love for his family and his commitment to medicine and teaching. Beyond his profession, his intellectual pursuits were vast and ranged from Judaism and Israel to classical literature and books to East Asian culture to cinema. Devoted to learning and loving to teach, the sharing of knowledge from one individual to another was an essential driver of his spirit and his hope for the future.
Lou graduated from Central High School, the University of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann Medical School (MD ‘57) in Philadelphia, PA. His career spanned from research in Nuclear Medicine at the University of California at Berkeley in the 1960’s followed by private medical practice in Endocrinology and Internal Medicine in White Plains, NY, to continuing his medical license in the State of Florida, after retirement. During his career, Lou was the Clinical Director of the Human Performance Laboratory and the Physician’s Clinical Research Service in White Plains, NY. He was a Clinical Professor at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY.
