Nate's character. After medical school (Rochester), he did his surgical residency
at Johns Hopkins, and Hopkins remained an important part of his life. Nate's
medical career was in Worcester, MA, first in private practice and then as a
founding member of the medical staff at the University of Massachusetts
Medical Center. Although not practicing medicine in his South Florida life, he
was always willing to help former patients and friends from Worcester as well
as new friends with health issues. He was a modest mensch.
At the core of his being was the love he had for his two sons from his first
marriage to Karen Cotzin Chertok, David and Jonathan (Karen), and their
children, Emma, Jason, Rena, Amy and Sam. He had been a hands-on dad, and
he found great joy in watching his grandchildren become unique and amazing
young adults. They are his greatest legacy.
Twenty-six years ago, Nate, only a 'snowflake' at the time, was introduced to his
wife, Rebecca, who is very much a Floridian. Together they created a loving,
larger family that includes stepdaughters Kirsten (Adams), Ingrid and Erica
(Vernon) and grandchildren, Carson, Alana, Elise, Jeff, Kayleigh and Alex.
Nate cherished his many friends, but if you asked him who his 'best friend' was,
he would tell you Maz and Eli, his miniature schnauzers. They were always by
his side or waiting at the door for him to come home.
There will be a celebration of his life Tuesday, February 13th, at 2:30 pm at IJ
Morris at Star of David, 9321 Memorial Park Road, West Palm Beach. The family
appreciates a deep connection to Temple Judea (4311 Hood Road, Palm Beach
Gardens). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given.
