She was the second of four children born to parents, Della Victoria Hammers Harris and Buford Allen Harris. Growing up, Alice attended Center High School in Center, Texas where she graduated. She later worked at Bartley’s Drug Store in La Porte, Texas, where she met Herschel. On October 14, 1944 Alice and Herschel Stennis Brown were married at Central Baptist Church in Baytown, Texas. After marriage, she became dedicated to her role as wife and mother.
Alice accepted Jesus as her Lord and savior at an early age, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Seabrook, Texas. She loved going to church and being involved in church activities, bible study, and attending the Southern Baptist convention. She dedicated her time to church activities and owning rental properties. She served on the zoning and planning board in Seabrook, Texas in 1986.
Among her happiest moments was her 50th wedding anniversary and floating down the Frio River with her family. Alice was sweet, funny, loving, strong-willed, and a very good cook.
She is preceded in death by her husband Herschel Stennis Brown; father, Buford Allen Harris; mother, Della Victoria Harris; brother, Calvin Harris; and sisters, Sybil Fouche and Lillian Lunday.
She is survived by her daughters, Janice Strange and husband Teddy, Kathy Ford and husband Curtis, Vicki Shofner and husband Mike; son, Herschel Daryl Brown; brother-in-law, Jimmy Brown; sister-in-law Beverly Brown; grandchildren, Suzanne Simpson (James), Mark Strange (Shannon), Angela Clark (Chuck), Greg Ford (Rosie), Daniel Shofner (Jessica); great grandchildren, Mason Clark, Cameron Clark, Lauren Ford, Ava Ford, Megan Buchanan (Matt), Katie Howard (Jonathan), Timothy Darracq, Joshua Simpson, Allison Strange, Samantha Strange; great-great grandchildren, Payton Darracq, David Buchanan, and Abby Buchanan.
