Benjamin "Ben" Cray, age 48, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, after a short illness. Born on December 18, 1977, in Pasadena Texas, Benjamin lived a life that took many turns, but always full of love for friends and family, as well as being a true fan of Houston sports teams. Above all, he always had a love for God which was rooted deeply from his childhood.
Benjamin was a man of many facets. He always loved to “fix” things, and that passion led him to become skilled in a number of areas including automotive repair, building, gardening, as well as other areas. Underlying all of that was his overwhelming passion for music, particularly gospel and contemporary Christian music.
He loved to play the piano and drums and often would just sit down and play a hymn or gospel selection he remembered from his childhood years.
Ben’s life was that of servant and protector. He loved his friends and family more than most people knew, and was always quick to lend a hand or jump to the defense of those he loved. Even in his childhood years, he would be quick to defend other schoolmates who were being bullied or mistreated.
Although his interests were varied, Ben was always a big sports fan. He loved following the Astros, Rockets, and Texans…and seldom missed watching a game if he had opportunity. He also enjoyed discussions with others on religious subjects and sometimes would call a friend to study a certain portion of scripture together.
In his latter years, Ben took great pride in mentoring young folks to be their best, participating as a parent in FFA and other school programs. He seemed to get great satisfaction out of helping those under his responsibility to succeed. His love for family was foremost in his mind, as was evident to those who knew him. He is survived by his wife Erica Cray (and her children Travis, Jayden, and Ariana), father Rodney Cray (and wife Judy), mother Leetha Jeanette Johnson Cray, sister Angela Crow (and her husband Jordan Crow), as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Service details are forthcoming, please plan for a date in April at The Church Triumphant, located at 1030 Strawberry Rd. in Pasadena.
In lieu of flowers, Ben’s family has asked the donations be made to Adult And Teen Challenge, a non-profit faith-based organization that treats and ministers to those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. (links below) Be sure to indicate donation in honor of Benjamin Cray.
