September 6, 1925 – June 6, 2025
Berkella Lucille Wiggins of Pasadena, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, just a few months shy of her 100th birthday. Born in Hedley, Texas, on September 6, 1925, to Edna and Lee Phelan, Lucille lived a life marked by love, devotion, and quiet strength.
She was married to Oran Wilson Wiggins, the love of her life and the father of their five children—three sons Don, Jimmy, and David and two daughters Sharon and Pam. A devoted homemaker and mother, Lucille poured her heart into raising her children with warmth, wisdom, and unwavering care. She was a talented seamstress who lovingly made her children’s clothing. In the early years, when the family lived on a farm, she ingeniously crafted garments from flour and feed sacks. By the time their youngest daughter, Pam, came along, she was able to sew from fabric—a sign of how far their love and determination had carried them.
Lucille had a green thumb and grew whatever she could in her garden. She was a fantastic cook, known especially for her holiday treats. Her divinity and fudge were legendary among family and friends. And she had a sweet tooth of her own—never far from her were Oreos, mini chocolate bars, ice cream, and a glass of sweet sun-brewed iced tea. A cold Dr Pepper was always in the fridge, just in case Pam stopped by.
Her little house on Cedarcrest was a haven of love. As grandchildren arrived, Lucille filled the home with patience, joy, and tenderness. Never a harsh word, just maybe a gentle “go on yonder” as little feet danced across her floors or banged out tunes on her piano. Her presence made everything feel safe, warm, and full of grace.
Lucille also had a deep love for animals. Her beloved pets—Toby, Coco, Peewee, and Daisy—were as much a part of her heart as her family, and they returned her devotion in kind.
A woman of deep faith, Lucille was a longtime member of South Avenue Baptist Church, where she attended services until she could no longer drive. Her relationship with God and her church community were integral to who she was.
Having lived nearly a century, Lucille witnessed the passing of many loved ones—but now, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with them in the most beautiful of reunions, surrounded by the glory of the Lord she loved so dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents Edna and Lee Phelan, brothers Johnny, Bob, and L.B. Butch Phelan, husband, Oran Wilson Wiggins, son David Wiggins, daughter Sharon Hedgecoke, grandson Shane Hedgecoke, and daughter-in-laws Brenda Wiggins and Marilyn Wiggins.
Lucille is survived by her sons Oran Don and Jimmy Frank Wiggins, daughter Pamela Armeli, grandchildren Joey, Josh, Kelly, Scott, Laura, Patrick, Tiffany, Natalie, Terrence, Aaron, and Eric, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
