Lee was born in August of 1927 to John James Muntich and Bessie Helen Pruitt Muntich, They resided in Corpus Christi, Texas and she was their third daughter. Being the youngest, she grew up on hand me down clothes from her sisters and learned quickly how to hold her own in her house. She enjoyed music at an early age and performed many times on stage with her sisters. While in high school she was offered a job at the local bank, and so began her long career in the financial world. After work, she would take the bus out to the USO where she would play ping pong and dance the night away. It was at the USO where she would meet her future husband, Joseph O. Sapp. He was a romantic, constantly sending love letters declaring his affection for her. They fell in love and were married in Louisville, Kentucky in October of 1947. A year later they welcomed their first child Joseph (Joe). The family then moved back to Corpus Christi and welcomed their second child Randall (Randy). Later the family would move to Greens Bayou (Houston) and welcomed their third child Carolyn.
After raising her three children, Lee returned to work in the early 80’s as a bank teller. She enjoyed working at the bank, getting to count money, but most of all she enjoyed meeting so many interesting people. She was an avid coin collector, with many rare coins in her collection. She retired in her early 70’s, but retirement did not stop her from helping people. Every Thursday she volunteered for many years at St. Luke’s Hospital, in the Heart Cath Lab, and was a quite the entertainer, bringing so much joy to the medical staff. Her other activity was bowling every Tuesday, which she did up until last year. She was perhaps the greatest fan ever of the Houston Astros, her favorite player was Craig Biggio. For many years, she attended the games in person, but once she was unable to travel to Minute Maid Park, she made sure that she watched them on television.
Lee (or Mimi as she was called by her grandkids) loved watching her family play sports. Joe and Randy played baseball, and she would let everyone know how great they were anytime she could. When her grandkids Jason and Michael played soccer, she would tell us it’s too hot for them to be running up and down the field, as she cheered them on from the stands. She loved to brag on all of the accomplishments of her grandchildren (6) and great grandchildren (14). She was so grateful to have such a smart, successful and beautiful family.
Lee, (Mom or Mimi or later Great-Mimi as she was called), was a very strong independent woman, hard headed, but the sweetest and most generous Mother. She was a great example to her family on how to live life to the fullest. Sbe will be missed by so many on this earth, but we know that she is now at peace, no longer in pain, and reunited with her one true love, happily dancing and singing in Heaven.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe Sapp and her sisters Irene Stewart and Pauline Karsten.
Lee is survived by her children, Joe and Pam Sapp, Randy and Sharon Sapp and Carolyn and Michael Campbell. Her grandchildren, Teri and Fred Cappadona, Mark and Amy Sapp, Chris and Candice Sapp, Jason and Dawn Sapp, Michael and Dorian Campbell, Stephanie and Paul Chavez. Her great grandchildren, Kyle, Shane, Emily, Blake, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Justin, Addison, Sophie, Aiden, Mia, Camille, Oliver, and Davis.
