Dorothy Rita Opre

Dorothy Rita Opre, 95, passed away on March 18, 2021. Dorothy was born in New Washington, Ohio on February 24, 1926 to parents Paul and Agnes (Wurm) Dick. She married John J. Opre on December 2, 1950. Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband John; her parents; her siblings Martha Platfoot-Brown, Vincent Dick, Eugene Dick and Victor Dick; her son Howard Opre; and her great grandson Christopher Ryan Opre.

The love from Dorothy's heart could be felt by anyone who met her. She loved people and seemed to bring a smile to every occasion. Despite hardships in early life, Dorothy was an optimist. There is no doubt her faith in Jesus guided her to be loving and thankful each and every day.

In her early 20's she flirted with her friend's brother, John Opre, after Midnight Mass one Christmas Eve. She asked, "Did you pray for me?" To which he responded, "I pray for all sinners." And so began the journey into a devoted marriage lasting 52 years until John passed away in 2002. The couple had five children, but tragically one son, Howard, did not survive -they are now reunited. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, knitting, needlepoint, paint by numbers and coloring. She was an incredible cook and loved to feed any and all visitors. Field trips with the seniors, bingo and special outings with family and friends filled her heart. Even a trip to the grocery store could bring plenty of opportunity for laughs.

Her four children were honored to have been able to care for her during the past six years. While time was stealing Dorothy's memory; daily life with Dorothy provided them with new cherished memories of their mother. Even in her final days on earth, Dorothy seemed to be smiling while she slept; perhaps she was getting a glance into her new home.

Dorothy is survived by her children John T. Opre (Wanda), James E. Opre (Rose Mary), Janet R. Opre (Terry Mittendorf), and Judy A. Drucker (Phillip); her grandchildren Glynn A. Opre (Kristen), Jimmy W. Opre, Timothy W. Opre, Jenny Ann LaRue (Ronald) Kelly Opre (Robin Pilcher), Blayne Drucker, and Savannah Opre; extended grandchildren Tina St. Croix (Barry), Starlet Bray, and Roger Bray (Sarah); her great grandchildren Hailey A. Gilmore (Blake), Baylon Opre, Payton Opre, Shawna Opre, Tristen Opre, Dalton Opre, Brody Jones, Erin Pilcher, Rory Pilcher, Blair St. Croix, Cameron St. Croix, Jordan Bray, Tianna Bray, Avery Bray, Zayden Bray, Colton LaRue, Landon LaRue, Lindsey LaRue, Naconna Garrett, Shane Garrett; her great great grandchildren Emily Gilmore, Piper Gilmore, Luke Opre, Justin Garrett, Paisley Garrett, Colton Garrett, and Beckett LaRue; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and an abundance of close friends who became extended family.
