Edward David Butchee

Edward David Butchee, a beloved Husband, Father and grandfather who was cherished, passed away on December 4, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on August 31, 1940, in Houston, Texas, Edward was a resident of La Porte, Texas, and retired to Thorndale, Texas where he found comfort and peace living in the quiet of nature.

Edward graduated from high school at Deer Park ISD and served as a US Navy veteran, proudly part of the Seabees, earning the Antarctic Service Medal. His career in law enforcement spanned seven years with the Harris County Sheriff's Department and 23 years with the La Porte Police Department, from which he retired on December 31, 1999. Edward was a dedicated member of the Deer Park Masonic Lodge, serving as a Mason for 50 years, and was actively involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

A devoted family man, Edward shared his life with his loving wife of 49 years, Marsha Ann Butchee. He was a father to Michelle Goines (Jack), Aimee Koch (Bryan), and Michael Butchee (Michelle), and a grandfather to Ryan Goines (Holly), Megan Weaver (James), Courtney Moore (Jesse), Kelsey Meekma (Logan), Hannah Butchee Cavasos, Dhalia Butchee, and Devin Myers (Amanda). Edward is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his sister, Ruby Gann, and nephews, Gary and Russell Gann. He was predeceased by his father, William M. Butchee, mother, Frances Warren, and grandfather Cletus E. Taylor.

Edward had a deep love for animals, caring for donkeys, goats, dogs, cats, llamas, and his pet cow, Junior. He enjoyed working on his 26 acres, spending time on his tractor, and was content to never leave his property. He could often be found enjoying the peace and quiet on his porch, with a cigar and a cup of coffee.

The family extends special thanks to S.P.J.S.T. Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, Concho Hearts Hospice, Deer Park Masonic Lodge, the La Porte Police Department, and David Darby for their continued care of Edward and the family.

Visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home & Memorial Park/Bethany Cemetery, in The Chapel, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas, on December 9, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the same location. The graveside service will take place at 3:00 pm.

Pallbearers will include Michael Butchee, Bryan Koch, Jack Goines, Ryan Goines, Weston Goines, and Rick Stansel.
