

Edward Charles Hempel passed away and into our Lord’s waiting arms on Sunday, May 8th in Pasadena, Texas at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 26 days. He was born in Fayette County, Texas on February 12, 1928 to August Charles Hempel and Lydia Esther Medack Hempel. Edward is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Annie Esther Kasper Hempel.They were married on April 19, 1953 in Winchester, Texas. God blessed them with their loving children Linda Dankert; Cynthia Stanfield and husband, Ed Stanfield; Sandra Hempel; and Donna Huron and husband, Andrew Huron. He was loved and adored by his grandchildren Jason Stanfield and wife, Kristin, Courtney Roberts and husband, Glenn, and Ryan Stanfield. God graced his life with five great-grandchildren, Tyler Roberts, Derek Stanfield, Hayley and Tessa Roberts, and Madison Stanfield. Edward served in the US Army from 1948 to 1952 as a Sargent First Class Tank Commander predominately in Germany. He met his wife, Annie in 1952, married in 1953, and moved to Pasadena, Texas shortly thereafter. After briefly working for Sears, Edward began his career at Shell Chemical in Deer Park as a Boilermaker for 36 years, retiring in 1988. His children remember him as a hard-working and generous father with a unique sense of humor who loved gardening and telling stories of his time in the US Army. Edward was an active and dedicated member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as usher, head usher, and in other capacities during their membership of over 60 years. He loved Jesus and spent his last days focused on the cross in his hospital room and enjoying the company of his family and pastor. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ernest and Johann Hempel, his brother Oscar Hempel and his wife, Nelda, brother in law Alvin Ziehr, nephew Glen Ziehr; and In-laws Martin Kasper, Otilie and Herbert Wagner, Doris Jordan, Johnnie Walther, and Mike Hunt. He is survived by his siblings Ruth Ziehr, Royce Hempel and wife, Jean, Alfred Hempel and wife, Joy, August Hempel Jr. and wife, Violet, and Bernice Edgett and husband, Norman. This loving family is graced by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews and their children, and a host of long-time friends. The family would like to thank Pastor David Sawhill, Heart to Heart Hospice Care and the doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s Patient’s Hospital and Paramount Senior Center for the kind attention and care given to Edward to make his passing a peaceful one. We would also like to thank those attending and wish you a safe passage home again. Donations can be made in Edward’s name to Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
