
Elmer Glenn Bondy, age 90 of Pasadena, Texas was born in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on Saturday evening, August 11, 2012. He was a member of First United Methodist Church Pasadena. Elmer graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio in 1940. He enrolled in Southwest Texas State University with a football scholarship and pursued a degree in education. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Elmer enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps at the age of 19. As a trained combat pilot and 2nd Lieutenant, he headed to the Philippines and Australia under the command of General Douglas McArthur. After WWII ended, he was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He re-entered Southwest Texas State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in education. While there, he met the love of his life, Isla Stockwell of Raymondville, Texas. They married August 10, 1947. They moved to Pasadena, Texas where he began his coaching and teaching career in Pasadena ISD. During that time he earned his Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of Houston. The last years of his 39 year career at Pasadena ISD included Assistant Principal at Pasadena High School, Principal of South Houston High School, and finally, Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools in charge of all intermediate and high schools. Elmer was honored in August of 1993 when the doors to Bondy Intermediate School opened. Elmer was active in the community as a past-President and lifetime member of the Pasadena Noon Optimist Club, Texas Life Member of PTA, a member of Pasadena Rotary Club, and was on the Administrative Board and was a 1992 and 1993 Lay Delegate to the Texas Annual Conference for his church. After retiring, Elmer and Isla traveled the world and enjoyed their children, grandchildren, and friends at their lake house in East Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife Isla Stockwell Bondy, and his parents, Floyd Frank and Roberta Barr Bondy, and his brother Floyd Frank Bondy, Jr.
Survivors include his son Robert Glenn Bondy and wife, Brenda; son Charles Stockwell Bondy and wife, Robbie; grandson Russell Glenn Bondy and wife, Erika; granddaughter Paula Bondy Johnson and husband, Ryan; granddaughter Charlsie Bondy Gomez and husband, Roland; grandson Kyle Graham Bondy and wife, Brittany; great-grandsons James Johnson, Paul Johnson and Cody Bondy, as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church Pasadena on August 18, 2012 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church, 1062 Fairmont Pkwy, Pasadena, TX 77504.
