She was preceded in death by her parents Isak Olsen and Mary Scholz Olsen, her siblings Herbert Olsen, Sigurd Olsen, and Thelma Rolke, and her grandson Christopher Bowling.
Etta is survived by her spouse of 50 years, Andrew Luther Wisenbaker; her children: Jerry A. Bowling and wife, Paula; James P. Bowling and wife, Debra; Julie Anne Miller and husband, Gene; Natalie Wisenbaker Aalto and husband, David; and Andrew J. Wisenbaker; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and brother Niels Olsen and wife, Frances.
Etta was a faithful member of Golden Acres Baptist Church in Pasadena for 23 years. As a woman of strong faith in her Savior Jesus Christ, she lived her life as an example to others. Artwork, crafts, literature, plants, and flowers brought her great joy, and she loved entertaining in her home and playing games like Farkle, dominoes, and Hand and Foot with her children and grandchildren.
As matriarch of the family, “she kept us all close,” one of her grandchildren said at her passing. Her father immigrated from Norway in 1911, and Etta was instrumental in keeping the Norwegian and Texan families close over the years. She and Andrew hosted more than 100 different Norwegians in their home and maintained relationships with them over the span of 60 years.
Every year for their anniversary, Etta and Andrew traveled to Galveston, where they loved walking on the Strand and the beach, collecting seashells and watching the waves come in. That was their special place. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary there January 23rd, 2020.
