Gregory Lynn Jenkins was born February 18, 1956 and passed away at the age of 66 on April 8, 2022 surrounded by family. Greg was born and raised in Golden Acres, in Pasadena, Texas, attending Golden Acres Elementary and San Jacinto Junior High, and graduating from Sam Rayburn High School in 1974. Sam Rayburn is where he met his first wife Teresa, and proceeded to have two beautiful children.
He was a career pipefitter at Crown Petroleum for twenty years, and enjoyed his work for a NASA contractor maintaining the HVAC equipment at the Johnson Space Center until his retirement in 2018. His work philosophy, “The astronauts and computer equipment can’t get hot,” allowed him to see some of the most private areas of the Space Center first hand.
A free spirit, Greg loved to get up and go, with sometimes only a general destination in mind. From fishing at the Dolen gravel pits and camping at Big Bend with his best friend Pete, to the mountains of Colorado where he was visiting all the tourist hot spots, to Cape Canaveral for the Space Shuttle launch, to the Langley Air Force Base, where he drove around like he belonged there until stopped by military police, only to tell them a National Historical Landmark was on the base and he was going to see it.
In his retirement years, he reconnected with and married his “angel,” Phyllis Miller, otherwise known as his work wife from their years of working at Crown together. Phyllis and Greg loved to travel together to the Frio River, visit their kids and grandkids, and were looking forward to a lengthy trip to the Eastern Seaboard.
Greg was reunited in Heaven with his mother and father, Mary Lou and Harry Jenkins Sr. and his best friend Pete Webster. Cherishing his lasting memories here on Earth are his wife, Phyllis Miller, children Dana Jenkins and wife Lana, and Amber Nabors and husband Monte, brothers Harry Jr. and wife Lori and Glenn, and wife Kathy. Grandchildren Dustin, Brantley, and Troupe Jenkins, Jaycee and Kaysie Nabors, bonus children Michael and Michelle and numerous bonus grandchildren, neighbors, extended family and friends.
A visitation for Greg will be held Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM with a Celebration of Greg’s life beginning at 10:00AM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice in Greg's honor.
