

He was born in Marietta, Oklahoma on January 29th, 1929, of Carl Holmes Tanner & Bessie Erby Arbuckle. Jack graduated from Greenville High School in 1947 and moved to Borger, TX shortly after to work for Phillips 66. While in Borger, he caught the eye of Dorothy Jo Meek and they were married on April 15th, 1951 in Manhatten, KS. Jack & Dorothy had been in Kansas for two years while he served after being drafted into the Army. After service, Jack spent a few more years in Borger, TX. In 1956 the couple gave birth to their daughter Karen "Susie" Tanner & weeks later they relocated to Deer Park, TX where he lived the remainder of his life. Jack went on to work for Phillips 66 for 38 years as an operator & foreman until he retired at 56.
He was the quintessential "Jack" of all trades. He was extremely resourceful, he had a mechanical mind that would break apart engines & put them back together. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, creating clever useful devices, & driving around in his 1951 Chevy. He was a very proud, loving, devoted & supportive husband, father & grandfather. He was a year round season ticket holder to whatever sporting events his grandsons were involved in, never missing a game. He was President of their fan clubs.
He was an incredibly strong man that lived a long life conquering cancer, a brain tumor, multiple strokes and a quadruple bypass on his heart. His latest bout was w/ Alzheimer's had enslaved his mind but now he has been set free of the confusion.
He was a true gentleman that will be remembered for his kind & caring heart, generous soul and a willingness to help regardless of the task at hand.
Jack is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughter Susie Curbello, son in law Larry Curbello, 2 grandsons Craig & Casey Curbello, & his dog Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Clelle Tanner & brother Joe Tanner. A viewing will be held March 18th from 5-8 pm in at the Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena, TX. A funeral will take place March 19th at 1 pm at the Grand View Memorial Park/Bethany Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
