Born on May 6, 1935, in Canton, Mississippi, James was the son of David and Ethel Moore. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1953.
In 1953, James married Mildred E. Rayburn, and together they had four children between 1955 and 1970. He later graduated from Mississippi State University in 1963 with a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he moved his family to Pasadena, Texas, where he began a 29-year career with Shell Oil Company.
Known for his sharp wit, strong opinions, and unwavering love, James was both the patriarch and the heart of his family. At family gatherings, he often found his way to the “little people,” sitting on the floor to play, laugh, and make them feel special. He was also known for sneaking the “yucky” foods off the kids’ plates when the grown-ups weren’t looking.
James was a remarkably intelligent and versatile man. A skilled machinist and welder, he had an extraordinary ability to fix anything, earning him a reputation as a master problem-solver. He also had a passion for aviation and held licenses as a private pilot as well as FAA licenses in Airframe and Powerplant Systems.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Louise Lott, Grady Moore, Eugene Moore, and Billy Moore; his infant daughter Susan Moore; his son James F. Moore Jr.; grandson James F. Moore III; and great-granddaughter Alyssa McVeigh.
He is survived by his daughter Lynn (Jack) Weber; six grandchildren - Jennifer Moore, Nicole Moore, Kimberly Moore, Gina Weber, Krystal Kannady, and Blake Weber; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in Mississippi, Texas, and Kentucky.
Above all, James will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather. His love, wisdom, integrity and determined spirit will be deeply cherished by his family.
A celebration of James’s life will be held on October 11, 2025, at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. The graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Grand View Cemetery.
