

Lawrence spent many years working as a dedicated plant operator at Arco in Pasadena, Texas, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. Following his retirement, he also taught process technology at San Jacinto College, passing on his expertise and knowledge to future plant operators.
Lawrence loved to read, and many remember how he would read the newspaper daily from cover to cover. He also had a passion for automobiles and was well known for his ability to identify classic cars by make and model.
He and Vernna shared 47 years of marriage, a relationship that began after their first date to Seven Sons Steakhouse, once considered one of the few fine dining hotspots on the east side of Houston. Their life together was marked by love, companionship, and lasting commitment.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Connie Gibson McCants, Debbie Gibson Burt, and Peggy Gibson Clark; his parents, Mattie Ola Murphey and Hugh Amos Gibson; his brothers, Charles Gibson, James Earl Gibson, and Hubert Gibson; and his sister, Marie Hall.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vernna Barnes Gibson; his daughter, Patricia Gibson Massey; his son, Larry Gibson and wife Pam; his sister, Dorothy Vinson and husband Charles; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy.
Lawrence will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his quiet strength, his curiosity and love of learning, and the steady presence he brought to those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505, on April 13, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. A Celebration of Lawrence's life will begin at 10:00 am. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
