

Marvin Lewis (Lew) Fincher passed away April 23, 2022 at the age of 70. Born in Port Hueneme, California the son of Sam and Evelyn, a military family, they moved from the East Coast to the West Coast 9 times. Lew graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas in 1969 where he held a record for the Long Jump. He worked for DuPont in La Porte for 30 years. He served as a chemical operator and during Hurricane Alicia, he was assigned to a hurricane roundtable to represent private industry and study the preparedness and safety for the petrochemical industry. After retirement, Lew formed a company Hurricane Consulting, Inc. and continued to advise companies on hurricane landfall and mitigation. Lew received many awards and accolades from the National Hurricane Conference, National Weather Service, US Coast Guard, and Tropical Weather Conference. He received the first Dr. William M. Gray Award for outstanding leadership in hurricane preparedness and safety from the Tropical Weather Conference in 2017.
Lew married his beloved wife, Meresa Prather, and was married for 30 years. Their love story began and were married at the beautiful Ashton Villa in Galveston. Together they loved life. He educated himself to the best at whatever was handed to him. Lew enjoyed surfing, sailing, volunteering, photography, genealogy, Harley Davidson Motorcycles with Mo., Texas history, and hurricane history; he was a walking book of knowledge. He educated himself by doing research on any topic he put 100% into. His love for barbequing and cooking chili with the Miller Lite Bunch won their team 2nd in the World Championships at Terlingua, Texas. His Chili Eve Christmas became a tradition for many years sharing his secret Triple LLL Chili recipe.
He was a life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, served on the Galveston Historical Commission, Plankowner of the Tall Ship Elissa, Cub Scouts of America, Galveston Historical Foundation, and the American Meteorological Society.
Lew was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Evelyn and brother Mike Fincher.
He is survived by his beloved wife Meresa, brother Jim Fincher (Cathy), Aunt Dean, Uncle Gene (Chris), Aunt Helen, several nieces and nephews, and cousins that he adored along with a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Galveston Historical Museum or the Pulmonary Hypertension Foundation.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 1:00PM to 2:00PM in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. With a Celebration of Lew's Life beginning at 2:00PM. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
