Melvin was the third of five children born to Melvin and Flossie Cousins. After graduating high school, he enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force where he served for four years. On December 17, 1970, Melvin and Theresa Cousins were married. He lived in La Porte, TX for 48 years. In 2000, he retired after 27 years of service from Exxon.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and playing poker. He had a quirky sense of humor, which will be remembered. Those that knew and loved him will miss him greatly.
Melvin is preceded in death by his mother, Flossie Cousins Taylor; father, Melvin Cousins Sr.; sister, Carolyn Cousins; and brother, Robert Cousins. He is survived by his wife Theresa Cousins; sons, John Cousins, Shane Cousins, Cole Cousins; daughter, Tracy Linde; grandchildren, Zachary Linde and Autumn Linde; son-in-law, Charles Linde; daughter-in-law, Astrud Leyva; brother-in-law, Jim Hilton; sister-in-law, Mary Hilton; sisters, Patricia Menefee and Deanna Henningsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
