Born to Herman Jackson and Jewel Echo Hales Turner on June 6, 1933 in Security, Texas, Pete grew up in the woods of Montgomery County and later the township of Allendale in southeast Houston. It was there that he met and later married, on July 3, 1952, his best friend and wife of 61 years, Betty.
Pete worked for over 40 years in the process analyzer field, later entering into the sales arena where he was many times voted Salesman of the Year.
Apart from his duties as deacon at Allendale Baptist Church in Houston, he was also a Sunday School teacher, coach of adult and youth sports, served on countless committees, and assisted in various building programs.
Known as “Pappy” to his six grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, he took no greater joy than to have them join him in his chair, where he rocked each one to sleep on many an occasion.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2013, and is survived by his son, Mike Turner and wife Sandy, son Doug Turner and wife Adrena, and daughter Cyndy Turner. His brother, Jack W. Turner of Willis, Texas, also survives him.
