

Pete was born October 1, 1957 in Robstown, Texas. He attended Robstown High School and graduated in 1976. He married his “special girl”, Hortencia Cabrera Mendez, and together they spent more than 45 years in love. Pete was a devout Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to travel and he was especially fond of his annual road trips to Las Vegas. He was also a talented musician and singer and was often found playing his classical guitar. He was a kind and giving man. He would always be available to help anyone in need. Pete was a living example of an individual who lived a life of service to others.
Pete started his education at Del Mar Community College in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from San Jacinto College with an associates degree in electrical technology. He had a certificate in instrumentation and was a master electrician. When he moved to Pasadena, he started working at United States Gypsum (USG) in Galena Park, Texas. He was a dedicated man and retired from USG in April 2021, after 42 years of service.
Pete is preceded in death by his sister (died at birth)- Maria Juana Mendez, father -Leopoldo Mendez Sr., mother - Juana H. Mendez. He will be missed and survived by his wife Hortencia Cabrera Mendez, daughters - Cynthia Mendez Killian and husband Anthony Killian, and Veronica Mendez-Wood and husband Tristan Wood, son - Pedro Mendez Jr. and wife Lindsay Mendoza Mendez, brother- Leopoldo Mendez Jr. and wife Elida Mendez, and 7 grandchildren - Caleb Mendez, Calynn Killian, Hannah Killian, Francisco Mendez, Zoe Mendez, Rowan Wood, and Corbin Wood.
Services to celebrate Pete’s life will be held starting first at Grand View Funeral Home, in Pasadena, Texas, on Monday, November 1, 2021. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Catholic burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, in Robstown, Texas, on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 1 p.m. The Rite of Committal will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
