Raymond Ponce Hernandez, 89 of Deer Park, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 24, 2021. He was born January 14, 1932 at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas, and was one of 12 children born to Francisco and Juanita (Ponce) Hernandez. He was a devout catholic and served and volunteered for many years at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church of Deer Park. Raymond was full of life, he was thoughtful, loving, and most of all, always willing to lend a hand. Being a native Houstonian, he graduated from Milby High School in 1950 and was a member of that years, State Championship Basketball team. Raymond was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and would often reflect back fondly on his deployment to Europe. He retired from Shell Oil Company in 1994 as a Class A Pipefitter and enjoyed his retirement years. He was a restaurant business owner in Deer Park for many years and he would be proud to say that it is still operated by one of his children. He enjoyed playing in the Senior Olympics and won numerous gold medals throughout the years, basketball was his favorite event to participate in.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Virginia Hernandez, step-son, Mario Luis Robledo, three brothers and six sisters and son-in-law, Roberto Ramos, Jr.
He is survived by his children, Elsa DiMeo and husband, Gennaro, Ramon M. Hernandez and wife, Sharon, Rebecca Sanders and partner Susan Shrum, Bernadette Bittler and husband, Robert and Patricia Ramos and family. He was blessed to have 17 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, that he loved and adored. He is also survived by his two remaining sisters, Pauline Martinez and Anita Cerda, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Visitation will be held 5:00pm until 8:00pm Monday, September 6, 2021 at Grand View Funeral Home with a rosary being recited at 6:30pm. Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church with burial following at Forest Park Lawndale at 1:00pm.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mario Luis Robledo, II, Richard Sanders, Armando DiMeo, Daniel Ramon Bittler, Roberto Ramos, III and Ramon A. Hernandez.
