Rebecca was born November 5, 1959, in Pasadena, Texas to Mother Jimmie Lee Holbrook and Father Everett Richard Holbrook, who preceded her in death. Rebecca grew up with her two siblings in Pasadena, went to Deer Park High School and graduated from nursing school at San Jacinto College Central.
Rebecca had a love for horses as a young girl and it has always been said all animals loved her. We all assumed she carried treats in her pockets. She spent some time growing up in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She often referred to this time as some of her most precious memories and the most beautiful place on Earth.
Rebecca re-met, the love of her life, Darilyn Adams as they went through nursing school together. Let me explain re-met. The part of Pasadena we all grew up in and yes, I mean most of our family, was small. Rebecca and Darilyn would compare their stories of growing up. Realizing they knew each other from the neighborhood. Rebecca rode her horse alongside Darilyn’s neighbor. They rode frequently in the makeshift ballfield used by Darilyn and her friends. So much of all our lives grew from this area of Pasadena. A small world indeed. Rebecca and Darilyn’s dream job was nursing for Texas Children’s Hospital. Their love of Pediatric Nursing was something they shared. Their blended family has grown and grown from four children to thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Their stories and adventures together are greater than words can describe. The love for each other and their family is immeasurable and undeniable.
Rebecca found her calling as a caregiver. As a nurse she did amazing work at the top of her profession as a Pediatric Cardiac Nurse for Texas Children’s Hospital. She worked, managed, and retired from there after many years of night shifts and some of the most amazing cases of cutting-edge medicine in recent history. She then continued as a caregiver in the, In Home Care, industry. This experience led her to step in as full-time healthcare provider for her children’s grandfather. This selfless act is one of a million examples, where she put the needs and the care of others first. She will forever be an inspiration to us all.
Rebecca remained close with everyone. She adored her family and friends as their biggest cheerleader, supporter, and confidant. She tried to make every game, dance, concert, scouting event, play, improve, graduation, or any milestone she could. Most pictures were either taken by her or she stepped to the side to let everyone else take center stage. She was always there and always will be. She was always so supportive and encouraging. She was so proud of everyone. She was everyone’s go to person when you wanted to catch up on family news. She was always there to lend an ear, give advice, or expertise. She loved cooking, baking, and crafting. Providing costumes, outfits, keepsakes, meals, and baked goods for everyone, all the time. Her love came through in all she did. She was kind, caring, strong, and loving. Her love is undying. She will live in our hearts forever.
