On Friday, October 23, 2015, in La Porte, Texas, Robert “Bob” Dean Arrington, Sr., stepped onto the streets of gold and was greeted by his Savior with, “Well done, my good and faithful servant! You have finished well and welcome home!”
Born October 22, 1956, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Wallace Eugene Arrington and Joan Marie Baade Arrington, Bob traveled the country as a military child until finally graduating from Vidor High School in 1974. During this time, through the church youth group, he met and fell in love with Helen Marie Mitchell and made her his bride on January 2nd, 1975. Helen was his first pride and joy, and they have traveled their beautiful journey together for over 40 years.
Throughout his life, Bob encountered and touched many people’s lives for the good, whether through church or business associations. In business, he spent the majority of his life owning and performing pest control services. He loved serving people and helping to solve their problems. He served in a variety of positions throughout his many years at Calvary Baptist Church in North Shore and then at First Baptist Church in Pasadena. Most recently, Bob was involved with his family at First Assembly of God in La Porte, Texas. His greatest mission in the church was loving and discipling the preschool and toddler ministries of the church.
Aside from business and church, Bob enjoyed several hobbies through the years. This encompassed umpiring and scheduling for multiple years, which also included the family traveling together to watch many games. After being restricted physically and unable to continue serving the athletic community, he began volunteering in the libraries at College Park Elementary and Baker Junior High in La Porte ISD. He followed his grandson, Joshua, through these years until unable to do so because of medical restrictions. After this, he spent a lot of his time loving on and entertaining his family.
Anytime he could speak into our lives or provide some entertainment, he was found right there in the middle of the action. His pride and joy through the generations have been his family; from his wife and taking trips, to being active in every aspect of his kids’ lives, and finally spending every opportunity with his grandkids that he could. He loved traveling and spending time with his mom, and fellowshipping and eating with each of the other members of the extended family.
Outside of his greatest caregiver - his beloved wife Helen - he was cared for by an amazing medical team throughout his entire battle with Diabetes
and following his kidney transplant fifteen years ago. Specifically, we appreciate Dr. Simms, Dr. Timmins, Dr. Grimes and all the Renal Specialist doctors for the attention they provided throughout his medical journey. We also appreciate all the staff and medical teams at Kelsey Seybold, and St. Luke’s Hospital for all the years and care they provided for him and the family.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Wallace E. Arrington; grandbaby Orsak; father and mother-in-law, Cecil “Pete” and Bronis Mitchell, DeQuincy, LA; nephew, Little Jimmy “Jimbo” Young, Jr. and other Heroes of the Faith. Survivors left to continue their journey include his wife, Helen Marie Arrington, La Porte, TX; son, Robert Dean Arrington, Jr, and wife Dena, of Mont Belvieu, TX; daughter, Donna Denise Orsak, and husband Aaron, of La Porte, TX; grandson, Joshua Dean Arrington; granddaughter, Abigail Grace Orsak, La Porte, TX; mother Joan Marie Baade Empey, and husband Charles Empey, of Lamesa, TX; brother, William Arrington, Lubbock, TX; sister Susan Gay, and husband Mike, of Beaumont, TX; brother-in-law Carroll Mitchell, and wife Kathy, of Helotes, TX; sister-in-law Nancy Williams, and husband Tim, of Beaumont, TX; brother-in-law, David Mitchell, and wife Stacia, of DeQuincy, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends.
