He had two brothers - Luther and Dwight. Even though they moved quite a bit and faced hardships Robert said his “childhood was fun”. But when asked, Robert said his favorite memories were “all the ones with Momma!”. Dolores Ann Lawrence (Momma) was Roberts’ world. If you were around him for any amount of time you would have heard him say, “Whatever Momma wants!”. He loved her unconditionally with his whole heart. They were married for 70 years, and in that time, they had 6 children. Being a dad was an honor and privilege to Robert. He made sure he was always there for his children. He continued that to his 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
Robert worked as a compressor mechanic for Rohm & HAAS. His motto at work was “do my job and do it right”. At times people at work would call him "grumpy” but do not confuse that with a negative. It stemmed from his love of people. Certain parts of his job were dangerous and he wanted everyone to be safe. He retired after 33 years of service to help take care of his ailing daughter, Deborah, and her daughter Erin. Which again speaks volumes of his love for family and how he displayed his selflessness in everything he did.
Robert had many hobbies/interests throughout his life - wood working, hunting, gardening, crosswords, family history, westerns, sports, and music to name a few but the most important thing to Robert was people, especially his family. He also had several nicknames (RE, Bob, Dad, Dino (he did an awesome Dean Martin impression), Papa, Great Papa) but no matter what you called him, you knew how much he cared about others. He was known to be a man of integrity. He was kind, selfless and took care of his family. He taught his children to be honest and “do the best job you can do”. He taught this through his daily example. He made sure to always say, “I love you!” and then continued to show it in his actions and the support he provided.
Robert went home to be with the Lord and the love of his life on November 6, 2020. His love will live on through his family and the many people that his life touched.
