Sallie Carolyn Darling Buchanan’s, first sunrise was on October 29, 1926 at Centerpoint, Arkansas and her last sunset was March 22, 2017 at the age of 90 in Sweeny, Texas. Sallie was preceded in death by her parents Willis Blakely Darling and Ollie Ann Mays Darling, ten brothers and sisters, her husband of 52 years Henry Buchanan, and her daughter Judith Carolyn. Sallie, often went by her middle name Carolyn, was a devoted wife and mother that loved and reveled in her family, friends, and Church. She had a dynamic life as a member of the “Greatest Generation” being a war bride in WWII to her beloved sailor Henry traveling with him at duty stations on the east coast. She also was a farmer’s wife in West Texas and Arkansas until the Korean War interrupted their life and Henry went back to the navy for a year. Ultimately, they settled in Deer Park, Texas. In her some 65 years living in Deer Park, she served as Cub Scout den mother, Little League Ladies Auxiliary and Optimist Wives Club member, active member of the First Baptist Church, and many other community groups. Most of all, Carolyn loved to cook (she was famous for her brownies and dinner rolls), take care of her flowers, and share her cooking and good times with family, neighbors, and friends.
