

Sandy Mathews, beloved wife, mother, sister, and educator, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at the age of 57. She was born on September 28, 1967, in East Chicago, Indiana, to the late Guadalupe and Rudolph Swedran, and was preceded in death by her sister, Cindy Swedran.
Sandy’s life was marked by her deep commitment to education and her unwavering love for her family. She was a dedicated teacher at Pasadena High School and went on to serve as an administrator in Galena Park Independent School District, where she touched the lives of countless students, colleagues, and families. Her passion for learning and her ability to inspire others made a lasting impact in the communities she served.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Rusty Mathews; her son, Michael Mathews; her daughter, Mikayla Mathews; her brother, Richard Walker; her sister, Rebecca Cantu; her sister-in-law, Joy Mathews; and her son-in-law, Garrett Kilpatrick. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will forever cherish her memory.
Sandy was known for her kindness, her generosity, and her infectious smile. She had a heart that was always open to others, and her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched. Her family and friends will miss her deeply, but they find comfort in knowing that her influence will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on December 23, 2024 at Grandview Funeral Home. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Galena Park Education Foundation.
Sandy’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved her, but her spirit and dedication to others will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
