

Spero S. Pomonis passed away peacefully, October 21, 2010 at the age of 87 surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with cancer at his home in La Porte, Texas. Spero was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 8, 1923 to Spero Nick and Soledad Pomonis of Houston, Texas.
Spero was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He married the love of his life DeWanda, his wife of 58 years. Spero is also survived by his son Dr. Nick Pomonis; his three daughters Ms. Rachel Windham, Dr. Deborah Blackwell, Ms. Wanda Sue Pomonis; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Windham, Benjamin and Student Doctor Charles Blackwell, George and Justin Whaley, Whitney, Courtney, Michelle, Nicki, and Dr. Jason Pomonis; 2 great-grandsons, Maximos Pomonis and Dallan Salter.
He served his country proudly in the Army Air Force 1383rd, as a Carbine Marksman stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador. A native Houstonian, Spero made his home in La Porte, Texas in 1964. He was an active member of La Porte Masonic Lodge #857, La Porte Eastern Star Lodge #683, Houston Scottish Rite Bodies, and the PSC Shooting Club in Friendswood, Texas, and remained a strong La Porte community advocate.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 12pm to 7pm at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2010, at 1pm in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston, Texas 77023.
