

Thyra Ann McDonald, 89, of Deer Park, Texas, entered into heaven peacefully on December 25, 2019. Thyra was born in Birmingham, Alabama to parents Charles Wesley Merritt and Annie Beaudreaux on June 29, 1930. Thyra retired from La Porte ISD after 24 faithful years of service. She was a loyal member of Monument Baptist Church in Deer Park and was involved in many of their activities, like the Church Golden Years where she spent some wonderful time and made some good friends. In her younger years as a member of Lake Side Baptist Church in New Orleans she won the most improved bowler award for the church bowling league. Some of her favorite activities were cooking for her family and devoting as much time to them as she could, making ceramics at the Maxwell Center with some of her dear friends, vacationing to Hawaii and going on cruises with her husband, Mac. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting blankets. She was married to the love of her life, James “Mac” McDonald for 58 years, she was a loving wife and mom, she was a good friend to all that knew her, and was always proud of her family. She was very proud to be from the State of Alabama where she was born and grew up. Thyra’s bright smile, great personality, funny expressions, and the light in her beautiful eyes will be remembered by all that knew her.
Thyra was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Robert “Mac” McDonald, son-in-law Ronny Manning, and her brothers, Lester, Earl, and Leo Merritt.
Thyra is survived by her children, son James Robert McDonald Jr. & wife Debbie, daughter Jan Manning; grandchildren Elizabeth McDonald, Denee Manning, Kari Manning Smith & husband Chase, Ashley McDonald Parsons & husband Hunter, and James Robert McDonald III & wife Melissa; great grandchildren Logan Parsons, Elliot Smith, Merritt Smith, and Lucas Parsons
