

Born April 25, 1933 in a farmhouse in Hobson, Texas. Walter was a hardworking man from his earliest years as a farmer’s son. After High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge and obtaining his A&P certificates, Walter settled in Pasadena. He is a long-time parishioner of St. Pius V Catholic Church and a Third-Degree Knight of Columbus. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Mitchell, and together they raised daughters Karen Potts Wanjura and Charlotte Henke Kistler.
Walter’s passion for aviation landed him in a 38 year career with Trans-Texas Airways, Texas International, and Continental Airlines. He devoted himself to mentoring others and leaving a legacy of hard work and excellence.
Walter passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 15, 2015.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife Mary, four siblings: Mary Siefert, Laura Kuhnel, Sylvia Young, and Raymond Henke.
He is survived by his siblings, Alice Dylla, Grace Hons, Charlene Lanum, and Stella Blanchard; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mike Wanjura and Charlotte and Pat Kistler, 8 grandchildren; Christi Wanjura Lyle, Jennifer Wanjura, Elizabeth Norris, Dylan Norris, Logan Norris, Savannah Rodriguez , Jessica Kistler and Katherine Kistler; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a Rosary to start at 7:00pm at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 12:30pm at St. Pius V Catholic Church 824 Main St., Pasadena, Texas 77506. Interment to follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
In lieu of flower, donations may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
