Yolanda Garza, a daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister who was known for her loving, caring, and funny personality; passed away peacefully on May 9th 2024. She was born on September 23, 1939. Yolanda lived an eventful and memorable 84 years.
Her most cherished moments were spent with her daughter and granddaughter, Yadira Cazares and Yanessi Medina, respectively; in the kitchen of her home in McAllen, TX. Every Christmas season, Yolanda would dedicate hours of her time baking her popular powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar cookies and gifting them to family members in holiday themed tins. While she lived out the rest of her years in Texas, her life began in Mexico as the daughter of Fidel and Barbara Garza and older sister to Leopoldo Garza and her late brother Fidel Dante Garza. Yolanda loved dancing to huapangos. Yolanda was also the best mom to Yadira Cazares Garza. One of Yadira’s fondest memories of her mother is her cooking -- asado de puerco, pastel de carne, salsas, etc. She put love into every meal she served, something her daughter says cannot be recreated. Her love and devotion extended to her granddaughter, Yanessi Medina, as she helped raise her. Yanessi’s fondest memories of her grandmother include being picked up after school and being spoiled with any food she wanted! Every Sunday, you could find Yolanda picking up barbacoa for breakfast and pan dulce from De Alba’s for coffee in the evening.
She is survived with deep sorrow by her daughter, Yadira Cazares Garza; her two grandchildren Yanessi Fernanda Medina, Matthew Beckworth; her brother, Leopoldo Garza; many more family and friends.
Yolanda is preceded in death by her late husband, Joe Villarreal Ramos; her parents, Fidel and Barbara Garza; her brother Fidel Dante Garza; and her beloved stepmom, Estefana Garcia who raised Yolanda and her brothers.
A viewing will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley on Monday, June 10, 2024 from 9am to 1pm with burial to follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens.
